In the most important match of the week, held in Fort Worth, rising star Vergil Ortiz Jr (17-0, 17 KOs) and former super lightweight champion Maurice "Mighty Mo" Hooker (27-2-3, 19 KOs) they gave birth to a magnificent fight. 22-year-old Ortiz won WBO International welterweight title beating 31-year-old Hooker by kot in the seventh round.

Ortiz achieved his 17th victory before the limit with an attacking and dominant fight. The leitmotif of the match was an attacking Ortiz with the aim of pinning Hooker to the ropes but with the former champion slipping away with shrewdness. In the third and fourth rounds Hooker used the length of his jab and right foot to keep Ortiz away but he always closed the distance by hitting him in the body with his right. Ortiz showed great footwork and constantly cut the ring to chase Hooker and hit him especially with body series.

In the sixth round Ortiz reached Hooker with a combination, which sent the former champion to the mat without being too shaken. In the seventh round Ortiz hit Hooker with a right to the body and "Mighty Mo " fell in pain with an apparently injured hand. Referee Laurence Cole immediately declared the kot in Ortiz's favor.
